Info: Platypus House is a unique Tasmanian attraction being the only venue where visitors may watch Tasmanian Platypuses in an indoor setting. Many thousands of years of isolation now suggest that the platypuses of Tasmania are becoming genetically discreet from their north island neighbours. This isolation has made Tasmanian platypuses susceptible to the fungal disease Mucor amphibiorum which appears to have been introduced into Tasmania by mainland frogs inadvertently brought to the island. On the mainland platypuses are immune to the disease whereas in Tasmania it usually kills them. Platypus House has been established to advance both community awareness about Tasmanian platypuses and science. We will tell you all about these beautiful egg laying mammals. You are guaranteed to see our animals during your visit.
